Step 3 - Launching Agile + Lean

Global Girl is probably the about the 15th business I’ve launched.  All of these were passion projects and some were successful others were not.  The good thing about failing is that there is always something to learn from it.  I am an all-or-nothing type of person. This means when I do anything, I tend toward doing it 125%.  When I started Olivia & Ruby back in 2015 I spent a lot of money before I knew if anyone would be willing to buy my products.  Here’s where working in IT for 20+ years comes in handy. My undergraduate degree is in Information Systems and one thing that has remained in my memory is the SDLC or Software Development Lifecyle which...

Step 2 - Visual Identity

As a visual person, one of the first things I do when I get a new idea is to create a logo, storyboard, or some other visual representation of the idea.  It’s like the idea doesn’t become real until I have something that I can print or view. For GG, I knew I wanted to use the same color story that I created for my blog FabFaithLife (FFL).  I wanted GG and FFL to be connected to each other and I’ using color as a way to do that. The first thing I did was to play around with logo designs.  Since the name was not completely new, I had some old graphics where I used the ‘G’ as the...

Step 1 - Write the Vision

“Write the vision and engrave it so plainly upon tablets that everyone who passes may be able to read it easily and quickly as he hastens by.” - Habakkuk 2:2 My vision for GG is to be a global business that combs the world for botanical ingredients that can be formulated into natural, effective, and safe bodycare products for our skin. In researching ingredients, it’s amazing how global our products are. It speaks to the global inter-connectedness that we don’t often see portrayed in a positive light today. Global relationships, mutual respect and understanding are important.  I want GG to be a positive representation of what a global business based in the US looks like. My Creative Story Part 3 – Global Views

“And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.” – John 10:16 Global Girl was a name I came up with two years ago that was inspired by a newly awakened interest in all-things-international. I remember waking up one day with the sense that my passion for creative entrepreneurial pursuits was now overshadowed by a desire to travel abroad, explore new places, and to make friends with people living there. London, England Thinking back, the only place I remember wanting to visit before were London/UK and France and now I’m interested in new places that I’ve never given...

My Creative Story Part 2 - Expansion

“' For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.” - Matthew 25:29 Yes, I am one of those.  Those people who get mental pictures of things that doesn’t exist and we want it too. We are always being inspired by something and it becomes our mission to figure out how to give life to what’s in our heads. For me this has meant a lifelong, multi-medium creative business journey that’s allowed me to do a bunch of different things from acrylic painting to jewelry-making to leather accessories to home décor pieces to graphic design to website development to producing popup shops. My...
